The advancements in technology have brought great benefits to the construction industry. Many tall buildings were built with impressive structures; however, it would not be possible to build these skyscrapers without the assistance of cranes. This is why this machine should have high-quality crane parts to ensure optimum performance.
A crane is a lifting machine that basically works with the use of pulleys and cables. In the construction industry, this equipment is a valuable asset as it makes working with heavy machinery and materials easier. Hence, understanding the different components of this machine can go a long way to identifying which parts needs replacements in the long run.
#1 Base
This part of the crane is comprised of a steel unit, which is linked to a custom-built concrete pad. Basically, the base provides the structure with stability, especially during operation. Thus, the base should be reliable, well-designed, durable and well-constructed to ensure safety and best performance.
#2 Boom
The boom is the working arm of a tower crane. It comprises of individual steel sections that are connected together and extends from the top of the slewing unit to the ground. This part is easier to identify due to the steel sections. A small trolley is affixed to the underside of the boom and runs the length of the arm, containing the hoisting mechanism.
#3 Mast
The mast is responsible for the machine with its height. It is designed so that the mast can grow or shrink during the operation. This part is comprised of individual steel sections connected together - much like the boom. The number of sections will determine the overall height of the crane.
#4 Slewing Unit
This crane part sits at the top of the mast and provides housing for the motor and machinery that allows the equipment to rotate. A top climber can be found below the slewing unit which enables the mast to grow. When the slewing unit disconnects from the mast, the top climber raises it higher.
#5 Chain and Hook
Chain and hook can be found below the small trolley on the boom. It is raised and lowered by the hoisting mechanism and is responsible for picking up loads and carrying these loads to a specific location. A crane will not be able to function without the chain and hook, especially if there is a need to transport heavy loads from the ground to the top or a required place. The chain and hook must be of high quality to make sure it can endure the weight of different loads. If it needs to be replaced, be sure to pick the right replacement. For instance, if you are using a P&H crane, you should choose P&H crane parts to guarantee not just the quality but the compatibility as well.
#6 Operating Cab
The operating cab is the place where the crane driver sits. It houses the controls required to operate the machine. Generally, it is located on top the slewing unit and can only accommodate one person to sit comfortably. The operating cab has front and side windows for a clear and unimpeded view.
If you want to replace some parts of your crane, it is highly recommended to buy OEM (original equipment manufacturer) replacements. This will not just guarantee the quality but will give you warranty too. For Kobelco cranes, go for Kobelco crane parts. If you have P&H crane, choose P&H replacements.
Superb post. Thanks for the share. Keep posting such a kind of post on your blog.
